Bushcraft & Winter survival skills
About the course
To commune with nature and spend time in its majesty is a special gift, even more so during the winter months. Winter has a harsh, unforgiving reality, however, with careful planning, skills and knowledge it can also be a beautiful landscape to travel thought.
To travel through a frozen landscape is often a test in suffering and hardships and at the same time the rewards go beyond words and are often difficult to quantify.
Course objectives:
The aim of this course is to experience early winter in Norway and cover the following:
- Tour planning, gaining knowledge about the landscape
- Staying alive in avalanche terrain, the signs, reading the terrain, a sense for snow and buddy rescue
- Navigating
- Travelling over snow, on Nordic skis and snowshoes
- Building snow shelters; quick emergency shelters and more substantial homes for the night
- Camping in winter

Flights, train and getting there
bus station.
From the Airport, you can take the “flytoget” which is an express train to Oslo central station. From there it is a short walk to the bus station. You can take the Valdres Express bus From Oslo central to Fagernes Skysstasjon which is about 20min from my house. The bus is comfortable, has free wifi and takes about 3 hours. I like taking the bus to Oslo as I can look out the window and see all the waterfalls and dream about ice climbing 🙂
Nearly all participants on previous courses have travelled by the above method, and they have described it as straightforward and easy.
